lasagna side dish and serving ideas

Lasagna. Zesty tomato sauce, check. Tender sheets of pasta, check. Creamy ricotta or bechamel, check. Lots of gooey mozzarella, check.

This hearty, soul-feeding meal is what all other casseroles strive to be. The iconic layers of pasta, sauce, meat, and cheese have graced many tables across the world. Italy may be what first comes to mind when thinking of lasagna, but the name is actually from the Greek word laganon. Laganon is the first known form of pasta, though it doesn’t resemble the ingredients of what we know today. Rather it is named for the method of layering pasta and sauce.

Because lasagna is a meal unto itself you don’t really need add a whole lot on the side. A crisp salad or some vegetables if you want to feel a little less guilty from all the richness. Warm crusty bread to sop up any sauce, and you’re ready to eat.
