When thinking about chicken pot pie you probably think of its hot creamy filling and flaky crust. It is a comforting and homey dish that is served piping hot from the oven on a cold fall or winter night. What you might not know is that chicken pot pie has a long history starting in back in the days of the Romans and that in Elizabethan times it may also have included live birds being baked inside to fly out when cut. Thankfully nowadays the chicken pot pie is a much humbler and less flamboyant sort of dish it is certainly no less delicious (possibly more so ?).
