Beef Stroganoff

Tender cubes of beef, check. Rich sour cream sauce, check. Now all you need to complete this hearty Russian dish is some crispy straw potatoes or creamy mashed potatoes and your set. Like many dishes that reach iconic status, beef stroganoff has many variants since it was created by a French chef in Russia. Originally there were none of the mushrooms that are synonymous with beef stroganoff today, and the sauce was made with mustard and bouillon then finished with sour cream. It was also served with potatoes, noodles didn’t come into the picture until it was served in China where they ate with noodles or rice.
