American style tacos side dish and serving ideas

Tacos (American Style)

Tacos (American Style)

Delicious and oh so messy, but that mess is well rewarded after you take that first bite and then every bite after of the meaty savoriness that is the taco.  Equally at home on the dinner table with the family or on bar menus (particularly on Tuesdays) tacos are a crowd pleaser.

You can make a spread relatively easily and affordably, cooking up seasoned ground beef (or pork or chicken if you prefer), laying out topping choices and let everyone make their own. Of course you can go all out by providing toppings beyond the usual shredded cheese, chopped lettuce and tomatoes and of course the salsa and sour cream; the addition of refried beans, black beans, guacamole, tomatillo salsa, some grilled vegetables or maybe a spicy pineapple salsa will take your next taco night to the next level. Of course one can’t subsist on tacos alone but the sides don’t need to be crazy difficult, a bowl of tortilla chips with salsa or guac, or a bean salad, or jicama slaw are all easy to throw together for a low-stress dinner that is also a lot of fun.

National Taco day is October 4.
